HSDB is under the Honolulu School District. Each of the four school districts has 2-3 Complex Areas. Each Complex Area has a high school plus regional elementary and middle schools that feed into it. Each Complex Area (nine of them) has a Complex Area Superintendent (CAS).
HSDB is often consulted to advise the State of Hawaii DOE personnel from all over the state regarding the needs of their Deaf/Hard of Hearing students. Currently, we are a School and are focused primarily on the students we have on campus. However, ALL HSDB students are transfers from other "home" schools around the State of Hawaii.

After receiving my Masters in Deaf Education, I returned my family to Hawaii and have worked as a DOE Teacher for the past 26 years.

To graduate from HSDB with a Hawai’i High School Diploma, a student must earn a minimum of 24 credits. Students may complete these 24 credits in 4 years or stay additional years until age 21 to complete the 24 required credits. In Hawai ‘ i, there has been a public school on O ' ahu operated by the department of education (DOE) for the education of Deaf, Hard of Hearing, and Deaf-Blind students since 1914.
