Her portraits of adolescents possess an extremely quiet and forceful beauty.

Her work was first exhibited in 1996 and has been shown around the world since then. Her photos are in the collection of many museums, incl. Guggenheim NYC & MoMA. She lives and works in Heiloo and her subjects now include still lifes, dogs and other animals. 2020-12-02 · Dutch artist Hellen van Meene is widely known for her distinctive style of photographic portraiture and her exceptional use of light. In her timeless photographs, young women and men are depicted as if they were under some sort of spell, stuck between their vulnerability and discomfort, as well as a latent sense of solemn grace. Artist Hellen van Meene (Alkmaar, Netherlands, 1972) is known for her (mostly) square photographic portraits of teenage girls.

Idag är hon internationellt känd för sina avbildningar av flickor på gränsen till puberteten. Hellen van Meene's work Untitled #301, from the Pool of Tears series, has been acquired by the Boston Museum of Fine Art. The artist's photographic portraits are in the collection of the Guggenheim Museum, New York, Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles, SF MOMA, Stedelijk Museum, Amsterdam, and the Victoria & Albert Museum, London, among many others.
